Members of Watford's Friendship Society had the chance to celebrate ancient trading traditions, while visiting one of Watford's twinned towns in northern Russia.
The group linked up with the English Club in Veliky Novgorod – a historic town which formed an integral part of the Hanseatic League, a trading consortium dating back to the Middle Ages.
The town has been twinned with Watford since 1984, and during the recent visit, it was the town of Novgorod's turn to host an annual celebration to mark the historic union.
The members also had the chance to visit a monastery and inspect swamplands that acted as natural defenses for Novgorod during the Mongol Invasion.
At a farewell party, the Watford group presented their Russian couterparts with tapes and CDs in English, to add to a library of resources they have been given over the years.
