Two men caught towing a stolen car to a breakers yard have been banned from driving.
Police investigating a stolen Ford Orion found Luke Davidson, 20, of Dell Road driving a car towing the stolen vehicle which was being steered by 23-year-old Wayne Craig, of Hemmng Way, Watford.
Both were arrested at the yard in Aldenham on March 9 and pleaded guilty to driving without insurance or a licence.
The court heard both men had been paid £10 by a Mr Miller to take the vehicle from Watford to the yard in Oakridge Lane, Aldenham to be scrapped.
In mitigation John Fuller representing Craig, who has two previous convictions for no insurance, said his client has an IQ in the 60s and is on incapacity benefit, and did not realise he would need insurance to steer a towed vehicle that had no engine.
Davidson, the court heard, made the “stupid” decision to drive the car as he needed cash to support his pregnant girlfriend.
More serious proceeds of crime allegations against the pair were dropped by the prosecution at a previous hearing.
At Dacorum Magistrates Court District Judge Carolyn Mellanby banned Davidson from driving for six months and Craig for two months. Both were ordered to pay £181 in fines and costs.
