A politician has labeled a train company's decision to cancel all services in and out of Watford Junction on Sunday as “absolutely outrageous”.

London Midland has suspended all its services, including those running in and out of Watford, Kings Langley, and Bushey, on Sunday, because of “staff shortages”.

Sal Brinton, prospective MP for Watford, condemned the decision, saying the problem would be exacerbated by closures to the Jubilee and Metropolitan London Underground lines.

Ms Brinton, the Liberal Democrat election candidate for Watford, said: “It is absolutely outrageous that a train operating company cannot organise its staff rota to cover for a Sunday and I hope they will be heavily fined for the short notice cancellation of this service.

"While alternative bus services will be running for some of the services, anyone who has traveled on them knows they are a very poor alternative.

"London Midland need to sort themselves out fast. This latest incident will infuriate the many people who rely on the service."
