A public forum to discuss the unveiling of a controversial shelter in Moatfield Recreation Ground takes place tonight.

The meeting takes place at 7.30pm, at Bournehall Primary School, Bournehall Avenue, Bushey.

It will give local people an opportunity to speak to the project team and local police about any concerns they have about the installation of the shelters.

The council has used lottery funding and is working with arts and environment organisation Green Heart Partnership (GHP) and design company Superblue.

More than 200 people have attended consultation events during the summer and their input has helped shape what the shelters look like and where exactly they will be.

Annick Collins from Superblue said: "Working with the local communities has been really useful and interesting. It's been great to hear what they have to say about their local area and their feelings about the shelters, which on the whole have been positive.

"At the consultation events we wanted people to really think about what they wanted from a shelter, whether they wanted somewhere to sit, play, meet friends, eat or simply a place to watch the world go by, and generally people wanted a bit of everything.

"All three designs reflect people's feedback and are unique to each local space."

Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "I think all three designs look great and should be welcome additions to each park. They have been designed so the whole community can make use of them and enjoy making use of them.

"We do understand some local residents have concerns about the shelters and that is why we have held consultation events so people could have their say."

The shelter in Bushey joins similar projects in Furzefield in Potters Bar and Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett. All of which are planned to be installed by January 2010.

Further displays of the designs are being organised and details will be publicised, but from tomorrow, you can see them at www.hertsmerecommunityspaces.org
