NOT many 19-year-olds have time to organise a celebrity-endorsed charity walk while studying for a university degree but that did not stop one student from Northwood.

Miss Lisa Meleck, of Watford Road, is organising the second sponsored walk around Hyde Park in aid of Crohn's Disease and is looking for any sponsorship from local companies to help launch the event.

She started the event with her friend, Miss Natasha Adley, 18, because they wanted to do something in aid of Crohn's Disease as both of their mothers are sufferers.

She said: "It is an embarrassing disease so we wanted to do something to bring more awareness to it."

Last year's inaugural event had 350 participants and raised £35,000.

This year, it is being supported by Crohn's sufferer and Fame Academy voice coach, Carrie Grant, Duncan James from Blue and former footballer Les Ferdinand, among others.

The eight to ten-mile walk is planned for the last week in June and Miss Meleck needs financial sponsorship in the region of £10,000 to fund it.

She said: "We are not expecting the whole amount from one company but anything anyone can give us would be great and we can give them some advertising in return."

For more information, telephone Miss Meleck on 07736 278425, e-mail her at info@walkforcrohns.org.uk or visit the website www.walkforcrohns.org.uk
