Runners and walkers took part in the 28th annual fun run for Harefield Hospital, to raise money for a new MRI scanner.

The weather stayed dry for the 900 runners, many of whom were former patients of the hospital or taking part in the memory of loved ones.

Jennifer Walton, fundraising director at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, said: "The turnout this year was incredible and the atmosphere was fantastic. As well as the enthusiasm of the runners themselves, families, friends and other supporters made the day a great success and I would like to give a special thanks to them."

Seven members of the Davies family travelled from Hertford for the occasion.

Mark Davies, a former patient of Harefield Hospital, ran in memory of his late father who died from heart failure in 2001.

He said: "We support the fun run as a family because we want to raise money for a new MRI scanner. We believe scanners are vital to identifying heart conditions so that they can be treated. A new scanner here at Harefield Hospital will bring great benefits for patients in the future."

Also running together were friends Joel Stainton and Geraint Evans.

Joel too had a personal connection to the fun run, held on Sunday, September 6, as his uncle had a heart transplant seven years ago at the hospital, which saved his life.

He said: "My uncle received fantastic care here, and the transplant saved his life. Therefore, we want to raise as much money for the scanner appeal as possible."
