Two sisters are celebrating after giving birth to two baby boys on the same day, in the same hospital and with the same midwife.

Emma Pacey and her younger sister, Hayley Mowle, gave birth to little Will and Stanley, respectively, on Tuesday, August 25.

The pair, who are both teachers in Harrow and were both giving birth for the first time, admit, three weeks on, that the day was “pretty eventful”.

However, they are thrilled the two cousins can now look forward to growing up side-by-side.

Emma, 34, and Hayley, 27, had been expecting to give birth to their two bouncing bundles of joy three weeks apart. Emma, who lives in Carpenders Park, said: “They admitted me to Watford General on the Saturday, when they were going to induce me.

“But nothing happened until the early hours of Tuesday morning when they decided he wasn't progressing and they decided that a C-section was the best thing.”

At 9.41am, following a caesarian, Emma staff gave birth to Will John Pacey, weighing in at an impressive 9lb 12½oz.

Meanwhile, Hayley, who by this stage was already 12 days late, was at home, in Watford Fields, trying to give her baby a gentle hurry up.

She said: “I was sat in the bath because that was what they told me to do and that was when I got the phone call from my mum saying Emma had gone in for a C-section.

“That was when I first thought they were going to be born on the same day.”

Hayley added: “It was a very weird feeling because you feel like you want to be there for your sister.”

Hayley was then admitted into Watford General where staff discovered Stanley had turned the wrong way round.

She said: “He had gone 'back to back', so they then took me up to the main ward where I met my mum and I found out Emma had gone into theatre.

“Then, at about 6pm, they said I was ready to push, so he was born about an hour-and-a-half later.”

Less than ten hours after his new nephew was born, Stanley John Mowle made his belated arrival at 7.22pm, weighing 7lb 11oz.

Emma added: “People kept saying to us we would have them on the same day and then the longer Hayley was overdue we began to think it too.

“I think it was quite unique for the hospital because they couldn't believe it either.”

As well as sharing their birthdays, both Will and Stanley will share the same middle name, John – named after their grandfather, who died last year.

And after the two eventful births, the two fathers, David Pacey and Chris Mowle, celebrated with a bottle of champaign and a supper of beans and bacon, with the happy grandparents.

Both Emma and Hayley have thanked their midwife, Jennifer Woods, and all the staff at Watford General.

They also thanked their 58-year-old mother, Pat Bowerman, who spent the day running between delivery suites and birthing rooms.

Emma said: “She was the second birthing partner for us both.

“But the hospital staff were brilliant with her. They really looked after her.”
