Children’s TV superstars The Chuckle Brothers thumbed the pages of the Watford Observer this afternoon as they took a well-earned break from filming.

The famously anarchic pair are in town to film three new episodes for the forthcoming series of Chuckle Vision – which first aired in 1987.

After a morning’s filming in and around the Cassiobury Estate Paul and Barry gathered with around 20 cast and crew for lunch at the Fullerians Rugby Club.

Paul told the Watford Observer: “Believe it or not we’ve been filming an episode where we’re mistaken for MI5 agents. We’re working as drain engineers at a house that MI5 agents are watching and the confusion starts from there.

“There’s a lot of water involved so you can guess what happens at the end: everybody gets wet.”

Staying at a local hotel the much-loved double act has now filmed three episodes in the town.

Producer Jonathan Brown explained: “This area is a perfect location for us. It’s very quiet, and has a great mix of architecture.”

Not everything, however, has gone according to plan, as Barry explained.

“We were filming by some shops up the road [Courtlands Drive] last week but we hadn’t realised there was a bus stop there. We were dressed as policemen and suddenly we were interrupted by a double-decker bus full of school kids who started cheering at us. We had to laugh.”

Paul and Barry will return to Watford on Monday, December 21, when they bring their festive stage-show, A Christmas Chuckle, to the Colosseum.

Paul added: “We’ve never played there before so we’re both really looking forward to it.”
