Bedmond Village Primary school's quiz night raises money for children in Africa

Bedmond residents have proved their mettle at a challenging quiz night hosted in order to raise money for struggling children in Africa.

Kenya charity, set up by Esther Muoso five years ago after she saw first-hand the struggle children face for basic provisions such as food and clothes, aims to give children in Africa hope by encouraging them to go to school.

Mother to a pupil at Bedmond Village Primary school, Ms Muoso approached the school with the idea to raise money to buy food for Kyambai primary school in Kenya. Bedmond Village Primary school has since adopted Kenya Charity as its charity, creating strong links with the African primary school and Kyambai primary pupils write letters to children at Bedmond explaining more about their culture and country.

Around 65 parents, teachers and locals from across the village turned out in force to go head-to-head on topics including geography, popular culture and general knowledge, at Bedmond Village Primary School on Saturday evening.

Successfully managing to raise £935 for the Kyambai Primary school, aside from proving their quiz prowess, participants enjoyed a delicious Ploughman's dinner and an enjoyable, relaxed evening, entering into the spirit with their generous donations.

Ms Muoso,of Parsonage Close and a liability advisor for a prestigious company, said: “The quiz night was absolutely fantastic, a huge success and we managed to raise £935.

“This money will be enough to buy food – one meal-a-day of maize and beans – for the 300 pupils in Kyambai Primary school for one year.

“The children will also be able to have Christmas dinner in school this year, something which has never happened in the schools around the district.

“The support shown by the school is amazing, it has been miraculous.

“May God bless people in Bedmond, I have no words good enough to thank them, their generosity knows no boundaries and they have changed the lives of children in Africa.

“God bless Bedmond school, it may be small, but it has a big heart.”
