Conservative Councillor Anne Swerling has resigned from her ward of Bushey Heath with immediate effect.

Hertsmere’s Chief Executive Donald Graham received her letter of resignation on Monday 19 October.

In it, she said: "My reason is purely personal and at this time my family must come first."

A by-election for her seat is expected to be held late in November. Prospective candidates should get their application in as soon as possible.

Mrs Swerling was first elected to Hertsmere Borough Council in May 2007.

Morris Bright, Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, said: “She was hard working, kind, gentle, well meaning, everything you'd expect in a local councillor.”
