A by-election for Bushey Heath will be held one month from now following the resignation of Anne Swerling.

Candidates wanting to register for the Thursday November 26 election must have done so by the end of this week.

Hertsmere’s Chief Executive Donald Graham received Mrs Swerling's letter of resignation on Monday 19 October.

In it, the Conservative Councillor said: "My reason is purely personal and at this time my family must come first."

Details of applicants who make the October 30 deadline will be announced on Wednesday, November 4, and will be available on our website at www.hertsmere.gov.uk.

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm on November 26, and the count will take place later that evening at St Peter's Parish Hall, Bushey Heath.

To vote, you must be registered on the electoral roll. Those eligible to vote in these elections will receive a poll card with details of where they can vote.

If you are unable to vote in person you can vote by post or nominate someone to vote on your behalf (voting by proxy).

The results of the by-election will be broadcast live on www.hertsmere.gov.uk. They will then be published on the site on Friday, November 27.
