Amateur photographers in Hertsmere can win £10,000 for photographs of wildlife and people looking after the environment.

There are two prize categories in the competition organised by Hertsmere Borough Council: local landscape and wildlife and people having an impact on where we live.

Gemma Godfrey, Hertsmere's recycling officer, said: "This is a great way to encourage people to look around them and see just how important it is to look after the environment.

The contest is sponsored by recycling organisation Alupro. Earlier this year the Watford Observer reported how Alupro plants a tree in the UK and Africa for every tonne of aluminium recycled.

The competition is open to amateur photographers only. The closing date for entries is February 28, 2010.
