A contentious planning application which has gone back and forward between committee and appeal was approved at a planning meeting last night.

The site at 124 High Road, Bushey, was previously an off-licence and has been empty for a number of years.

The new development will see Domino's Pizza investing £250,000 into the property in order to set up a hot food delivery unit.

Georgina Wald, of Domino's, said: “We are delighted to have finally been given the go-ahead.

"We just can’t wait to get cracking and bring new jobs and delicious, piping-hot pizza to Bushey.”

Councillors opposed the previous application on a number of issues, not least the effect on the High Street and the noise caused by the proposed use.

The latest application set to fix these problems in order to push the project forward.

The previous application was taken to appeal earlier this year after several problems were brought up by the committee.

The appeal over-ruled all but one of these - the extractor unit at the back of the building.

Domino's then entered discussion with Hertsmere Borough Council in order to address the problem and submitted the now successful application.

Residents remained unconvinced at the claims made by Domino's, suggesting that a full noise survey be undertaken before permission was granted.
