Not many people would have expected us to get seven points out of the three games last week, particularly after two home defeats immediately before those games.

And despite the win against Middlesbrough, it's likely that even fewer would have expected that after eight minutes of the match at Ipswich, when we were already a goal down and Ipswich were in the process of hitting the bar from an opportunity that they really should have scored from.

Despite Ipswich swarming all over us for most of that game, we somehow managed to escape from Portman Road with a point, and to prolong the home team's wait for a first league victory of the season. This was thanks to a combination of wayward finishing by Ipswich, good saves by Scott Loach, and a well-taken 94th minute goal by supersub Nathan Ellington, who looked effective after coming on.

But if we looked below par on Tuesday night, we looked totally different on Friday in front of the Sky cameras as Sheffield Wednesday were demolished 4-1 at Vicarage Road. Don Cowie played in the support role, allowing Henri Lansbury to play in central midfield, from where he was far more influential than he has been in his time at Watford to date as he was forced to get involved in the midfield battle and was then able to use the ball well.

The whole midfield and attack looked comfortable with the ball, and the interchanging of positions, particularly involving Cowie and Lansbury as well as Danny Graham and Tom Cleverley, was something that Sheffield Wednesday's defence just couldn't cope with.

Tellingly, although Lansbury got most of the headlines in Saturday's newspapers, it was Cleverley who Sky's cameraman ran to at the end of the game. His skill and trickery, combined with a great level of commitment, have made him a firm crowd favourite. Hopefully we'll be able to extend his loan to last for the rest of the season.

So now it's on to West Brom, where a win could put us up to the heady heights of fourth, and a defeat will mean at worst we lose only one position in the table.
