Struggling children from a Kenyan village have expressed their “heartfelt appreciation” to students from a school in Bedmond.

Bedmond Village Primary School has raised hundreds of pounds for Kenya Charity, which aims to help provide food and clothing to children living in Kyambai, Kenya.

Holding a number of events, including quiz nights, cake sales and non-uniform days, pupils from Bedmond School have forged strong links with the school in Kymabai, thanks to support from Esther Muoso.

Ms Muoso, who set up the Kenya Charity five years ago after she saw first-hand the struggle children face for basic provisions such as food and clothes, aims to give children in Africa hope by encouraging them to go to school.

Mother to a pupil at Bedmond Village Primary school, Ms Muoso approached the school with the idea to raise money to buy food for Kyambai primary school in Kenya.

Speaking of the impact the contributions have made on the children in Kyambai, Ms Muoso, who lives in Parsonage Close, Abbots Langley, said: “The support from Bedmond School has made such a difference - everyone has been so generous.

“Bedmond School received a letter from the village school’s headteacher, Damaris Matheka, thanking everyone for the recent donation of £935.

“Her letter described how the entire Kyambai community feel they lack words to express their heartfelt appreciation, pupils are happy and teachers are so thankful.

“They have budgeted to feed the pupils for a whole year and will also have enough to hold a Christmas party on November 26.

“They may think they are only making a small contribution, but to the children in Africa, it is a massive thing.

“The school in Kyambai has also planted more than 300 trees out of a planned 4,000, which will help the environment, provide shade for the villagers and also marks the links between the two schools, showing future generations how they can help themselves."
