A seven-year-old South Oxhey girl who suffered serious brain damage during a traumatic birth at Watford General Hospital has been awarded £2 million in compensation.

Wheel-chair bound Holly Green, who needs to be fed through a tube and requires 24-hour care, was awarded the money at the High Court yesterday.

Holly’s legal team had sued the West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust, claiming her mother’s labour could have been handled more efficiently – claims denied by the trust.

The two sides, however, agreed a compromise deal in July and the settlement was approved by Judge Sir Christopher Holland yesterday.

Sue Jarvis, a partner at law firm Blake Lapthorn, which represented the Green family, said: “This is an excellent settlement because this lump sum will enable her family to purchase a suitable home to accommodate Holly's complex needs and allow them to recruit much needed nursing care.

“Holly's parents have provided exceptional and loving round-the-clock care since she was born. I hope that this compensation will improve Holly's comfort and allow her parents time to be Mum and Dad to Holly as well as ensuring that she receives the specialist care that she needs."

Spokeswoman Eileen Whitehouse said: “The West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased that the parties have been able to reach a resolution in this difficult case without the need for a court hearing.

"On behalf of all the staff at the trust we would like to wish Holly and her family the very best for the future.”
