A former ballet teacher from Kings Langley claims her daily stretching exercises help to keep her active as she prepares to celebrate her 105th birthday with a party.
Muriel Green, 104, who lives in Ardent Nursing Home, was born in London, but moved to Abbots Langley at the age of two, when her father bought Duck’s Farm.
After she married her first husband in her 20s, she relocated to Kings Langley and has lived there ever since.
On Friday, November 27, surrounded by friends and staff at the nursing home, she will celebrate turning 105.
Mrs Green, an active member of the nursing home, likes to socialise with other residents as much as she can, which she believes is a result of being an only child.
She said: "I’ve lived here for three years, following a fall I had at my home in Lauderdale Road.
“I like to walk along the corridors and visit my friends and chat with the staff - and I also like to help out where I can by folding the washing.”
Mrs Green, who has worked as a ballet and Sunday school teacher, said: “I still do my ballet stretches every day, although my leg isn’t as good as it once was - but it keeps me going.
“I’ve reached a milestone turning 105 but I don’t feel too different to how I felt when I reached my 90s.
“I still have very fond memories of when I was younger – I remember chasing the chickens and hens around the yard and I also remember how much I enjoyed school.
“The only things I do tend to forget are the names of my husbands.
“I had two, but can only really remember one of them. That comes with age I suppose.”
