A Kings Langley schoolgirl has been crowned "Supreme Winner" following a Watford schools art competition.
Amy Tang, a Year 11 art student at Kings Langley School, Love Lane, pipped more than 120 students to first place in an annual art competition.
Named the Vinci’s 2009 Art Competition, as it is sponsored by Watford construction company VINCI, it is now in its 6th year and recognises the artistic talent of local students, encouraging them to produce artwork for display in the company’s headquarters.
Based on the theme “School for the Future”, Amy’s artwork depicts students typing on laptops.
She was presented with a number of vouchers, a gold medal and a cut glass bowl for being the supreme winner on November 17.
Amy, 16, from Garston, said: “I worked on this piece of Art during an after school Art Club over the course of six weeks and during half term.
“I thoroughly enjoy art and really hope to pursue a career in that field.”
More than 120 students from four schools across the county, Kings Langley School, Watford Grammar School, St Clement Danes School and Queen's School, entered the competition and were judged by members of the company and Watford & West Herts Chamber of Commerce.
Roger Gagan, chief executive of Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce and one of the judges said: “Having judged the competition now for a number of years, the standard this year was higher than ever which is a great credit to the schools and local students who took part.
“While we were eventually able to agree upon the winners in the various categories, this was only after considerable discussion and debate.”
Calendars depicting the artworks in the winning categories have been given to participating schools to sell to their students, in order to raise money for their nominated charities or for their school art department.
