My First Day

Holocaust survivors to recount experiences at a conference at Watford Grammar School for Girls

Holocaust survivors will recount their experiences during World War Two at a conference hosted by Watford Grammar School for Girls this Friday.

Nine survivors will speak to the entire Sixth Form at the school, in Lady's Close, and about 40 students from other schools and colleges will attend a lecture and take part in workshops during the day.

The event was organised following the success of the inaugural conference during the last academic year.

The conference will begin with a lecture from Professor Richard Evans, chairman of the Faculty of History at Cambridge University.

Students will then take part in workshops examining a range of themes related to the Holocaust, before hearing accounts from the survivors.

Perhaps while on this kind of subject, the audience could hear about what's gone on in Gaza too. I understand that Watford friends of Salfeet have an interesting speaker in January, Dr Arafat Shoukri, the Chair of "The European Campaign to end the siege on Gaza". Apparently, like the Holocaust survivors, he has first hand experience of the present conditions under which the mainly refugee population of Gaza live.
