Firefighters raced to the aid of a mother today when her baby was trapped inside her flat.

Crews from Watford and Garston were called to Croxley View after the woman had locked herself out of her home at about 12.32pm.

She had turned the grill on in her kitchen but not put any food underneath. She then walked into the hallway outside her flat and the door slammed shut, trapping her five-week-old baby boy inside.

Firefighters were able to get into the smoke-logged flat and the baby, who was in the bedroom at the time, was taken to Watford General Hospital for a check-up.
