Two charities benefited from the generosity of a mixed morris dancers club who gave away £800 at the Rickmansworth Victorian Evening.

Phoenix Morris from Rickmansworth donated £400 each to the Cherubs charity at Hillingdon Hospital and to the Colne Valley Special Sailors on Friday.

The dancers - who meet every Wednesday, 8.30pm at the Scout Hall in Ebury Road, Rickmansworth - also performed for visitors to the annual event held in Rickmansworth High Street.

Michael Stimpson, the squire of Phoenix Morris, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to support these two local charities. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported our fund raising at various local events during the year.”

Cherubs is an organisation created by the parents of babies on the neonatal unit at Hillingdon Hospital, which provide information and support to parents and raise money for the unit.

Colne Valley Special Sailors, based at Rickmansworth Aquadrome, enable disabled people to enjoy sailing in adapted dinghies.

Earlier in the year Phoenix Morris gave £400 to another local charity, Swan Care, which rescues swans in distress, bringing the Morris side’s 2009 charity donation total to £1,200.

Phoenix is always looking for new members of either sex, to dance or provide the music. Log on to www.phoenix-morris.co.uk for more details.
