Police are looking for a footballer who punched another player at Powerleague in Bushey

Police are still looking for a footballer who punched an opposing player in the face at a match in Bushey.

The assault took place at 9.10pm on Thursday, November 5, at a football match held at the Powerleague centre in Aldenham Road, Bushey.

During the match a 29-year-old from Watford was approached by a member of the opposing team and punched in the jaw, causing injuries which needed treating in hospital.

The offender, believed to go by the name Kit, left the pitch after being restrained by other players.

Both players were in teams participating in division five of the Thursday night league. The victim was playing for the Galacticos team, which is in first place, and the offender was playing for the current number two team The Globetrotters.

David Blane, from Powerleague, said: “There is a disciplinary code in place and the maximum penalty is a lifetime ban.

“Given the severity of the incident the player would be banned not only from the Watford centre but in all other Powerleague centres too.

“The team will still be allowed to participate as they do not suffer at the hands of one individual. This man was an occasional player who has now disappeared, but when he does come back he will be informed of the ban.”

The offender was described as mixed race, in his early 20s, of slim build and about 5ft 9in to 6ft tall. He was also described to have short, dark, shaven hair.

DC Vikki Murray, investigating, said: “We are treating this incident very seriously and I would be interested to speak to anyone who believes they know the offender described or may recognise him.

“This was an unprovoked attack and the victim has been left with injuries that will need further treatment.”

Anyone with information can contact DC Murray on the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222 citing crime reference number J2/09/1573.

Alternatively, telephone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
