Shoppers and staff from John Lewis have collected Christmas gifts for Watford children in conjunction with local charity Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers.

Presents have been collected throughout December at the store in The Harlequin shopping centre.

Customers and staff were able to pick a tag from the store's Christmas tree with the age of a child and whether it was a boy and a girl and choose a present for them.

The store has collected and wrapped the presents and will distribute them to children in the run-up to Christmas.

Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers volunteers provide help and support for more than 100 Watford families that are under stress or experiencing particular difficulties. The charity has seen the numbers of families seeking support rise in number recently.

Home-Start manager Vivienne Davies said: “Christmas time can cause such pressure for families. Problems like isolation are enhanced and many parents struggle to afford extra luxuries and the gifts their children want. We are extremely grateful to John Lewis for making it a little easier for families.”
