A cricket club in Abbots Langley has been provided with money to help pay for coaching, thanks to a local councillor.

The junior section of Abbots Langley Cricket Club has been given a grant of £1,200 by Hertfordshire County Councillor Paul Goggins from his locality budget, funding training for six new junior cricket coaches for the Colts section of the club.

Councillor Goggins said: “The cricket club plays a central role in the life of the local community and helps to promote the sport among people of all ages in the area.

"I’m very pleased to be able to use the locality budget to help the club provide training for the benefit of its younger members.”

Locality budgets were launched in July, with the aim of using the funding for worthy, social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire and a total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on worthwhile community projects in the area.

Jane Lay, membership secretary of Abbots Langley Cricket Club, said: “The cricket club has some 170 boys and girls which train on Sunday mornings throughout the cricket season and play in competitive games.

“Without qualified coaches to train these boys and girls our club would be the poorer - we thank Councillor Goggins for supporting us."
