The Watford Observer's Review of 2009 - June

Schools in the Watford area began reporting cases of Swine Flu as the bug began its worrying spread up and down the country.

Queens’ School, in Bushey, reported 23 confirmed cases, with nearly 130 more reporting flu like symptoms.

The whole area was confirmed later in the month to be and official swine flu “hot spot” by the Department of Health, which later admitted it could no longer prevent the infection from spreading.

A specialist NHS call centre was later established in Clarendon Road to control the distribution of anti-viral drugs.
