Councillors will debate three options for road safety improvements outside a Chorleywood secondary school later in the month.
Members of the Three Rivers Hertfordshire Highways Joint Member Panel will debate options to improve road safety outside St Clement Danes School, in Chenies Road.
Safety outside the school has been a hot topic of debate since January 2008, when a teenage schoolgirl was seriously injured attempting to cross the busy road.
Despite the introduction of improved road signage and markings, parents and pupils – many of whom gathered outside the school for a noisy demonstration in December – are still demanding further action.
The Joint Members Panel, made up of county and district councillors, will debate three potential improvement schemes – ranging from £36,400, to £5,700.
These are:
- the introduction of a traffic island in the middle of the road, allowing students a “safe haven” when crossing the road – at a cost of £36,400
- the introduction of “any time” waiting restrictions to control obstructive parking – at a cost of £5,700
- the introduction of a one way system along North Hill to improve the movement of busses to the school – at a cost of £11,200
The committee will meet on Wednesday, January 27, to decide on its next course of action.
