A public-spirited request by Abbots Langley Methodist Church and the help of a Hertfordshire County Councillor has meant that the village will be provided with a new notice board.

Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Goggins has provided £149.50 from his locality budget to replace the old, dilapidated board on the wall in Langley Road, with a brand new, covered, lockable one.

Each county councillor has locality budgets worth £10,000, which they can hand out to worthy organisations in their wards.

Used by the general public, the board ensures residents are aware of opportunities for leisure, business and community projects in the area.

The church had replaced the single board with two large modern ones, but this has now been paid for and further updated thanks to the councillor’s grant.

Tony Manning, secretary to the church's finance and property committee, said: "Quite a few folk have already remarked on how the two new notice boards improve the appearance.

“I think this shows that the new boards are fulfilling a need in the community.”

Councillor Goggins said: “I am very pleased to be able to pay for the new public notice board.

“Local churches often play a key role in organising and informing people about events in their area and sometimes a quite basic piece of equipment can go a long way towards helping them fulfil that role.”
