Tributes paid to 'Hong Kong Dave' from Mill End

More than 100 people this week paid tribute to a man known affectionately among friends as 'Hong Kong Dave'.

David Miller, 44, was a “free spirit” who loved fishing along the Grand Union Canal and other water holes across south-west Hertfordshire.

However, he died tragically from carbon monixide poisoning as he worked on a friend's boat on January 21.

Mr Miller, from Chiltern Drive, Mill End, leaves his father Mervyn and sisters Sharren and Beverley.

There was standing room only as family and friends gathered to remember Mr Miller during a ceremony at West Herts Crematorium, before moving to the Rose and Crown pub in Harefield, on Tuesday.

Mr Miller grew up in Carpenders Park and lived in Watford for much of his life, before moving to Mill End in 2007.

Described as a 'jack of all trades', Mr Miller worked for a dairy in Ruislip and also as a poultry man.

He was also a keen traveller, attended music festivals and was a regular face at the Rickmansworth Canal Festival.

Mr Miller's partner Cheryl Eadie described him as her “crazy diamond”.

She said: “He was always happy, always laughing, always smiling. He loved a party and his dancing. Everybody says he was an absolute legend.

“He was so loving and helpful. He would help anybody and ask for nothing. Everything was unconditional with Dave.

“If there's one thing he taught us, it was to live each day as it comes. He used to let life worry about him. He was just so special.

“He was a free spirit. Nothing kept him down. He was a friend to everyone.”

Two friends of Mr Miller, Dan O'Shea and Ian Rand, have produced some music in his memory. To view the video, visit www.youtube.com and search for Dan O'Shea and Ian Rand music.
