Nightclub duo in on fake money scam

STAFF at a Watford nightclub turned a blind eye to a money laundering scam, a court heard this week.

Luton Crown Court heard that two members of staff at Destiny nightclub were cautioned for their role in the scam, in which north London undergraduate Peter Ogendengbe tried to pass off counterfeit notes he had purchased for £5.

Ogendengbe, of Chase Side, Southgate, pleaded guilty to two charges under counterfeit currency laws at court last Friday.

The 23-year-old had visited the High Street nightclub on Friday, April 16, and used the notes to buy low priced goods over the bar, getting change in legitimate currency.

On the tenth time he passed a fake note he was caught. Police found three of the fake notes still on him and £134 in good currency.

Handing Ogendengbe a one-year community rehabilitation order, recorder Charles Bear said: "This was a premeditated way to defraud and you brought two other people into your dishonesty."
