'Persistence pays off' as eyesore land cleared in Watford

A derelict and overgrown area of land has finally been tidied by its owner, Network Rail, after months of political pressure.

The company had been asked repeatedly to take responsibility for the land it owned, in Queen’s Place, off Queen’s Road.

The area, next to a set of steps to Radlett Road, had begun to concern local residents, who feared it was attracting crime.

Delighted Liberal Democrat county councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst had been lobbying Network Rail for months to clean up its act.

He said: “I have been asking, and pestering staff at Network Rail since May 2009. “This eyesore has been cleared at last which just goes to show that persistence does pay off. I know residents living here are delighted."

Other local issues will be aired this evening when MP Claire Ward addresses the Queens Community Action Group, formed to tackle grime and grime in the local area.

In the past 30+ years I have never seen anyone on this little piece of land and wonder how it being overgrown and full of litter can attract crime?
