A Garston ladies football club has scored new goalposts thanks to a donation from a Hertfordshire County Councillor.
Councillor Steve O’Brien, of Bushey North ward, donated £1,000 from his £10,000 locality budget, to Garston Ladies Football Club.
The locality budget was given to all 77 members of the council, to be awarded to worthwhile projects in the area.
The ladies-only team, which runs nine junior and three adult teams, needed the junior-sized goalposts for its under-12s to under-15s, after moving to their new ground at the Metropolitan Police Sports Club, in Bushey.
Ray Smith, vice-chairman of Garston Ladies FC, said: “We are delighted we have been able to buy the goals for our junior teams, we can now meet league requirements for our younger players.”
Councillor O’Brien said: “I’m pleased to be able to help this excellent local club to develop and become an important part of the community.
“Playing football helps develop responsibility, commitment and team spirit in young people - attitudes that will stand them in good stead on and off the football pitch.”
