A pair of young cyclists from Bushey are raising money for Haiti by riding further than ever before around a nearby park.
Cameron Richards, 10, and Lawrence Marshall, 11, will attempt to circle The Moatfield 25 times during half-term next week, more laps than they have ever completed.
The two were inspired to embark on their charitable challenge after helping out with an appeal at their school.
Cameron, from The Close, said: “We thought the people of Haiti do not have anything, and we are very lucky compared to them, so we thought we should try and raise some money.
“It is a challenge for us. We have cycled around The Moatfield eight times before but that is as far as we have gone.”
The pair are keen bike riders and their current total of £270 could be beaten as they will be accepting donations up until the day of the challenge.
Lawrence Marshall, from Glencoe Road, said: “We want to give people in Haiti food and water because if they are helped then they can get better.”
Cameron's mother, Nicky Carr, helped the boys set up a website, as well as emailing and phoning around friends and family for donations.
She said: “Both Lawrence's mum and I are very proud of the boys and the support they have had from family and friends has been excellent.
“It is great to see them raising money for such a good cause.”
The boys had been asked to count the money raised at a non-uniform day at Ashfield School, in School Lane, which totalled £863 and gave them the idea for the bike ride.
They have succeeded in their aim to raise a combined total of £1,000 and, as the school donated to the DEC appeal, the boys will be giving their money to UNICEF.
Cameron added: “We still have some more to do so hopefully we can raise even more before the bike ride.”
