Football players from a club based in Bedmond have been kitted out with a new strip thanks to grant from a Hertfordshire County Councillor.

Councillor Paul Goggins, whose ward is Abbots Langley, has allocated £525.72 from his £10,000 locality budget to Bedmond Ajax Youth Football Club.

Locality budgets, launched in July 2009, were given to all 77 members of the council to be awarded to worthwhile projects in the area.

Bedmond Ajax Youth Club, based in Toms Lane, has squads for boys and girls aged between eight and 18.

Since the grant was awarded, the club has bought new balls, cones, bibs and training tops for the under-12 boys’ team and under-16 girls’.

Chairman Paul Cope said: "We were over the moon to receive the grant.

“We wanted to upgrade the training equipment to be used across the youth section and get new kit so we can appear at games in uniform.”

Councillor Goggins said: "I was pleased to be able to help the teams and I'm sure the group will enjoy the new training aids.”
