Friends and family of murder victim Gary Bennett have paid tribute to a man they described as a “big friendly giant”.
Mr Bennett, 46, was found dead in Aldenham Country Park with severe head injuries on Wednesday morning by teenage schoolchildren.
He worked as a refuse collector for Watford Borough Council at the Wiggenhall Road Depot.
Writing on this website, one co worker said: “Those who knew Gary would all tell you that he was one of life's true characters and your typical friendly giant.
“If there were more people like him the world would be a less boring place.
“I'm sure I can speak on behalf of all my work mates when I say the workplace is not going to be the same without him.”
Another comment said: “Gary I'm shocked to my core, who could be so evil to hurt you mate.
“I grew up with you and have known you all my life and never seen you without a smile and a cheeky dig.
“You'll be greatly missed mate.
“My prayers and condolences to his mum and family and God's speed to the police. R.I.P. Gary (Porkpie) Bennett.”
Police are investigating a line of inquiry that Mr Bennett knew his killer.
A further tribute said: “BFG - Big Friendly Gary, always a cheeky grin and a quip.
“A very sad end for a one off fella.”
