A man chased after two thieves who broke into his van and stole some power tools.
The victim parked and locked his white Citroen van in a service road next to Allied Carpets, in the Colne Valley Retail Park.
But as he went into a shop, he saw two men stealing two Bosch power drills and a Fein Multi Master sander.
Despite the victim's attempts to catch them, they got into a light-coloured van and drove off towards Waterfields Way.
Police are now appealing for witnesses and information about the theft, which took place at about 3pm on Wednesday, March 3.
The suspects are described as two white men, aged in their 20s to 30s and of average build. They are described as tall, about 6ft tall and one was wearing an orange high-visibility jacket.
PC Jennifer Vince said: “This offence happened during the day and it is likely that shoppers will have witnessed this offence, but may have thought the suspects were tradesmen.
“I would appeal to anyone who saw anything which could be related or suspicious in any way in the area at the time or who might have information to contact me.”
Anyone with any information should telephone PC Vince on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively, telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
