The mother of murder victim Gary Bennett has thanked well wishers for the dozens of cards and floral tributes she has received in the wake of her son's death.

Police investigating Mr Bennett's murder believe he was killed by someone he knew. His body was discovered in Aldenham Country Park on Wednesday, February 24.

Officers have also issued an artist's impression of their main suspect.

Since her son's death, Alice Bennett said she had received more than 80 cards and bouquets.

Many more flowers have been laid outside the gates of the Wiggenhall Road waste depot, where Mr Bennett, 46, worked for Watford Borough Council.

Mrs Bennett, who lived with her son in Little Oxhey Lane, said: “I want to thank the ex-colleagues and residents that live near me and friends for the lovely floral tributes and cards.

“It's very good to have neighbours say what a lovely boy he was and what a pleasure he was to work with.”

In the days after the murder took place, Mrs Bennett also visited Aldenham Country Park to lay some flowers.

She added: “I hope whoever did this is caught. It's a terrible thing to happen to your son.”
