Bushey Academy held its 13th annual technology competition today.
A dozen schools from across the area attended the event, which is organised by the Rotary club and the school.
Students compete to solve a problem, which is not announced to them until the morning of the competition.
This year, 16 students from each school had to create a lighthouse structure, with a light alternating between on and off once a second for ten seconds in total.
St Helen's school won the competition with their innovative design.
Gethin Walters, technology teacher, said: “It's a great event, the students get to take part in a competition and gain experience even if they lose, which is a reality of life.
“It's a technical tournament but it's also a problem solving tournament, where teams have to come up with a solution in a short space of time. All of my students worked very well as a team which is all that matters.”
Mr Walters also runs an after-school technology club to help students expand their knowledge of the subject.
