Council advised to grant green belt Traveller site, in Little Oxhey Lane

Councillors are likely to approve a mobile home development on green belt land, in a bid to meet Gypsy and Traveller targets.

Three Rivers District Council will meet on Thursday evening to debate a planning application for The Paddock, in Little Oxhey Lane.

Its development control committee has been advised by expert planning officers to grant special dispensation to the applicant, Nathan Jordan, because he and his family can legally be classed as travellers.

The council, like many other local authorities in the countries, is under government orders to provide additional accommodation sites for travelling families.

A council report, prepared to brief committee members, said: “Such development, as proposed in this planning application, is normally considered inappropriate within the Metropolitan Green Belt. “However, the general need to provide Gypsy and Traveller accommodation within Three Rivers District and Hertfordshire County - in conjunction with the personal needs of the Jordans - are considered to amount to very special circumstances that outweigh any material harm caused to the Metropolitan Green Belt.”

The committee, which may choose to reject the recommendation, has been advised to grant permission for a period of five years, on the condition that only one mobile home will be stationed on the site at any one time.

NO NO NO ! green belt is there for a reason ! it is there to protect our dwindling countryside, for go this simple protection and we will be a concrete jungle in no time, if its good enough for the Jordans to build on green belt then its good enough for anybody, but you can bet you bottom dollar that the councillors will appease this PC nonsense, i have said this before if the councillors want to do some good they should sack these so called expert planners now ! they are worse than useless

TRDC councillors will have to be very sure of their ground if they choose to reject the advice of their own experts because such a decision would almost certainly go to appeal where it is likely to be reversed and could well then result in an award of costs against the council.

They need to be no sure than the fact that this is green belt land protected land ! If this is allowed you may as scrap the green belt protection because it will mean absolutley nothing! consult the local people and they will all tell you the same, any councillor with the guts to oppose this will get 100 percent public backing thats for sure, those that pass it will feel the wrath of the electorate

This application must be kicked out. One mobile home. yeah right. This man will join up 10 easily and call it one with 10 "families" all with the same name. If this applictaion goes through Watford and the surrounding area has years of seeing starving and ill horses on other peoples land. Just because the Gov't orders it doesnt mean TRDC has to jump.
