Watford schoolgirl organises Haiti action day

An eight-year-old girl organised a day of school activities to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Tabasom Mahjub, of Field Junior School, Watford, was so shocked by January’s disaster that she organised a non-uniform day on Friday, and even presented a special assembly on the disaster.

Tabasom, whose determination helped to raise more than £600, explained: “I felt very sorry for the people and wanted to raise money to help re build their community.”

Her proud headteacher, Julie Henley, added: “We are always very keen for our children to develop an awareness of the wider and global communities and were happy to support Tabasom, who showed real initiative and impressive research skills in preparing her event and raising funds for a deserving cause.”
