Four bailed in Mohammed Ahmad kidnap investigation

Four people arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Watford man Mohammed Ahmad have been released on bail.

Mr Ahmad’s severed thumb has been discovered by officers investigating his disappearance on Sunday, March 7.

Hertfordshire Constabulary, which said yesterday it had not ruled out the possibility of a murder investigation, confirmed it has released four on bail.

They are: A 36-year-old man from London, a 35-year-old woman from Ilford, a 39-year-old man from Croydon, and a 41-year-old woman from Leicestershire.

A further man, 33-year-old Mohammed Riaz, has already been charged with kidnap, false imprisonment, harassment and burglary. Riaz, of no fixed abode, is due in court on Monday, May 24.

A fifth man, a 41-year-old from Ilford, where the thumb was found, has been released with no charges laid.

Police are still appealing for information on the whereabouts of Mr Ahmad.

Detective Chief Inspector Melanie Burn, from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, is leading the investigation.

She said: “Officers are working round the clock to find out what has happened to Mr Ahmad. Whilst our inquiry is progressing, we still urgently need members of the public to come forward with information.

“Support is being given to Mr Ahmad’s family who are frantic with worry. If you think you know something or think you have seen something that could be linked to this case, I am appealing for you to make contact with the incident room on 01707 355798.”

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
