An Abbots Langley man who tried to dupe authorities chasing speeding fines has been sentenced.

Simon Weston-Brown, of Adrian Road, ran a scam falsifying Notices of Intended Prosecutions, made out in fictitious names, in a bid to fool authorities out of claiming the fines.

On Friday, March 12, at St Albans Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was given a 15-month prison sentence and disqualified from driving.

A further six people, who were involved with Weston-Brown in attempting to avoid their speeding fines, also pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and were given suspended sentences, community work and fines.

Chief Inspector Donna Pierce, from the Road Policing Strategic Unit, said: “The successful conclusion to this investigation demonstrates our relentless commitment to pursue those who try to flaunt the law and get away with committing the very serious offence of perverting the course of justice.

“I hope these results serve as a strong deterrent to those tempted to risk their own and others lives by speeding.

"There is simply no excuse, and those that try to avoid facing up to the penalties can rest assured that they will be made to face the consequences of their actions.”
