The principal of West Herts College was among education leaders who attended a reception in Downing Street.
Elizabeth Rushton represented the college, in Hempstead Road, Watford, at a celebration for colleges that have been graded good or outstanding by Ofsted, on Monday.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown told guests: “Colleges are at the heart of our communities, helping people through the recession and key to the UK’s economic recovery. Training the next generation of engineers, scientists, teachers and designers, they are developing the skills we need to prosper in the decades ahead.”
Ms Rushton, head of the college since 2005, said: “It was a great pleasure to join colleagues from other colleges for the reception at Downing Street and to have the opportunity to discuss some of the challenges we face within the further education sector with the Prime Minister and others directly.”
