Planets and shining stars were visible to the naked eye at a school in Abbots Langley as students took part in National Science and Engineering Week.
Inspired by “Outer Space”, pupils at Breakspeare School in Gallows Hill Lane, made astronaut helmets out of plastic bowls, glitter and badges, were able to look at projections of stars in a hired inflatable planetarium and had their play area transformed into a miniature galaxy complete with papier mache planets.
Deputy headteacher Caroline Day-Lewis said: “Thanks to teacher and science co-ordinator Jackie Davis, Breakspeare School has been transformed for the week into a space environment.
“Our pupils have severe learning difficulties, but they have enjoyed being taught about space, stars and the planets, in sensory-stimulating, tactile surroundings.”
