Eco-friendly awards have been given to individuals in Bushey who have made an outstanding contribution to school travel.

The Hertfordshire County Council's annual School Travel Awards recognise schools and individuals that “go the extra mile” to get children safely to school.

Winners from the area were:

• Sheila McHugh from Sacred Heart Primary School - Walking Bus Champion of the Year.
• Gareth Davies, Bushey Meads Secondary School -Secondary School Travel Champion of the Year.
• Lynn Heslop, the School Crossing Patrol for Little Reddings - Special Award for bravely leading pedestrians to safety during an armed robbery in 2007.

Each received prizes at Campus West Theatre in Welwyn Garden City.
