Five fundraisers from John Lewis Watford began a 24-mile journey this morning as part of a national relay event for Beating Bowel Cancer.
To complete their leg of the challenge, the volunteers were tasked with travelling from the store to the High Wycombe branch without using their own transport, while carrying the 'baton' – a mobile phone.
The baton was delivered to John Lewis yesterday by staff from the Welwyn branch.
Wearing red t-shirts and red and white striped shorts, Samantha Molyneux, Angela Pulman, Louise Miller, Gemma Rudd and Tom Slater left the store and walked up the High Street towards Watford Met Station.
Their plan was to take the London Underground line to Amersham, stopping at each station along the way to collect money, before travelling to High Wycombe.
Beating Bowel Cancer is John Lewis' national charity of the year.
And the group, who all work for the Watford store's call centre, which will close under centralisation plans later this year, said they were looking forward to their journey.
Samantha said: “We just thought it was good to take part in something like this.
“Who knows what we're going to come across.”
The baton's journey began from John Lewis Brent Cross on March 2 and will return to the charity's headquarters, via Aberdeen, on March 30. Each leg of the journey is completed in one day.
