A quick-thinking carer prevented a serious fire in a sheltered flat in Watford this morning.
Firefighters were called to a first floor flat in Eastbury Court, a sheltered housing complex off Longcroft at about 9.30am by a carer who had found a burning chip pan on a neglected hot plate.
A Watford firefighter said: "She did very well. She immediately threw a tea towel over it.
"That was exactly the right thing to do. If she had not acted so quickly there could ave been quite a serious fire."
