Students and staff at a Watford college transformed last week's P.E. lessons, taking part in a nationwide “Sports Relief” fundraiser.

Regular classes at Westfield Community College on Tolpits Lane were replaced with a basketball free throw, a beat-the-goalie football contest, and a competition based on the television programme So You Think You Can Dance.

The week concluded with two and a half laps around the sports field, as part of a nationwide Sports Relief Mile event.

The BBC charity event encourages people to take part in sports related sponsored challenges, and provides money for projects around the world.

Abu Choudhury, teacher and organiser, said: “We've spent the whole week doing fun things in P.E. lessons. Today we're completing a mile around the playing field, everyone can join in whether they walk, jog or crawl, we've even got a few three-legged entries.

“Dan Finell, our P.E. technician, said if we raised more than £150 in one day he'd shave his hair off, so we emailed around all the staff and managed to get £300. I cut his hair in front of the whole school.

“Our school is very sporty and the students want to beat the teachers, so they're motivated by seeing all of us taking part in fancy dress.”

Watford football club midfielder, Will Buckley, congratulated the students at the end of the run.
