Hertsmere residents are being asked to air their views on the council’s planning process this week.

Hertsmere Borough Council’s Overview and Performance Committee has decided to review the committee's system to see if it still meets the needs of the council.

The council has three committees according to the geographical area in which the application refers.

The committees are responsible for determining and monitoring planning applications and related enforcement matters under planning legislation.

Borehamwood and Elstree Planning Committee covers Borehamwood, Elstree and Well End, Bushey and Aldenham Planning Committee covers Bushey, Radlett, Aldenham, Letchmore Heath, Patchetts Green and Round Bush and lastly the Potters Bar and Shenley Planning Committee covers Potters Bar, Shenley, Ridge, and South Mimms.

Due to the volume of applications, a large number are determined by the head of planning and building control. However, all major applications are presented to the relevant committee for determination.

Overview committee chairman Councillor Dr Harvey Cohen (Conservative, Borehamwood Brookmeadow), said: "We are looking at our planning meetings to see if our processes meet the needs of the public.

"The majority of other districts in Hertfordshire have only one planning meeting so we are considering whether this approach would be appropriate for Hertsmere."
