WORRIED residents are campaigning to have a crossing made safer after several near misses.

Tracey Quick and her husband Richard want the crossing, on the A41 on the north side of the Dome roundabout, in north Watford, to be made more visible for motorists.

Mrs Quick said: "I was nearly knocked down in my wheelchair by a motorist coming off the roundabout who clearly didn't realise the crossing existed and jumped the red lights.

"It was a bad experience and I know of other people it has happened to.

"I simply can't do nothing.

We have to make motorists aware that the crossing is here."

Mrs Quick and her husband have now enlisted the support of Meriden councillors Audrey Oaten, Sue Greenslade and Jan Brown for their campaign, as well as mayor Dorothy Thornhill. Councillor Auden is now discussing options with Hertfordshire County Council highways department to find a solution to make the crossing safer and more visible to drivers.
