December 15, 1950: Centre of attraction for scores of Watford youngsters was Blackpool and England winger Stanley Matthews who signed autographs at the Co-operative Hall above the shops in St Albans Road, Watford. On Mr Matthews' right is Mr Jack Hart from the Watford Co-op shoe repair department. In the left foreground is Mr Louis Jones, the Co-op manager for all shoe outlets in Watford and Harrow. Mr Matthews was promoting the "Stanley Matthews Football Boot", exclusive to the Co-op and showed coaching films and demonstrated his football skills. Mr RA Sired of 9 Chantry Road, Harrow, who worked as a junior in the shoe repair department and whose job was to prepare the hall by putting out chairs and tables and setting up the film screen, won a limited edition model The Watford Observer delivery van for helping with this caption. Picture no. 701.
